In a world with big problems, it is easy to forget the small things. From simple acts of kindness to the gift of undivided attention, our actions push and pull on the mandala of life with the force of our intentions. In Zen, we are reminded that despite our need for certainty and control, all we are ever ultimately able to do is confront the present moment with awareness, wisdom, and compassion. How then, might we find some comfort in the power of small things? As the great Zen teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh explains, “Don’t worry if you feel you can only do one tiny good thing in one small corner of the cosmos. Just be a Buddha body in that one place.
